Melinda's main areas of practice are employment and industrial law and equal opportunity. She came to the Bar from Holding Redlich where she worked in the Industrial Department, predominantly for unions and employees. Her work there involved the full range of industrial and employment related advice and litigation. She also developed a special interest in equal opportunity law extending beyond the employment area, most notably acting for the complainants in the Northland Secondary College case.
Melinda has continued to practise in these areas since coming to the Bar. In the industrial and employment area she has worked on a wide range of matters, from unfair dismissal cases to major industrial disputes. Her work in the equal opportunity area is largely employment related, and has extended to complaints of discrimination in sport, education and in the provision of goods and services. Melinda has not limited herself to these areas, doing a range of tribunal work including freedom of information, crimes compensation and disciplinary matters.
Since being involved in the Stolen Generation litigation in 1999-2001, her practice has broadened to include personal injuries work, particularly in the areas of medical negligence and asbestos litigation.
