Nick completed his articles and was employed with Stewart & Sons of Echuca, Victoria, specialising in criminal law, personal injuries, contractual disputes and negligence litigation.

He practised as a solicitor/principal in general practice from 1978-88 before signing the Bar Roll in 1988.
