Alister has an extensive commercial law practice which has involved acting for banks and financial institutions, class-action litigation in the Federal court, insolvency law and building disputes in VCAT and indeed most aspects of commercial law.
In the last 10 years, Alister’s practice has grown to embrace employment and workplace relations law. This has included proceedings involving industrial action, freedom of associated, employment contracts, termination of employment, discrimination and equal opportunity. He has appeared regularly in the Federal Court, the Federal Magistrates’ Court, the Industrial Relations Commission and the industrial division of the Magistrates’ Court.
Prior to coming to the Bar Alister worked for Purves and Purves and Purves Clark Richards as they then were where he was employed in the commercial litigation section of these firms working predominantly in commercial litigation for insurers and banks.
Other Interests: Between 1999 and 2003 Alister travelled extensively through Indonesia as a guest lecturer in a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade funded training program on intellectual property.
