Geoff was admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand in 1977 where he had a wide ranging commercial and criminal practice which required him to appear in the District and High Courts and also the Court of Appeal.

After moving to Hong Kong in 1981, he practised initially in the area of personal injuries litigation but later came to concentrate on commercial and admiralty matters. At that time he also developed expertise in law reform and law drafting. Again he appeared in all levels of the courts in Hong Kong as well as having conduct of a number of Privy Council Appeals. Geoff left Hong Kong in 1991 to return to New Zealand.

Since 1991 Geoff has concentrated on trade practices and regulatory affairs with particular emphasis on network industries such as telecommunications, electricity and gas. This has also included law reform for those industries. Geoff has acted for a number of commercial clients in those industries as well as for Governments.

He commenced practice as a barrister in New Zealand in 1997. He has worked since that time as a consultant advising principally on reform and privatisation in gas and electricity.

Geoff's earlier working history shows remarkable diversity:
1991-97 principal litigation counsel and regulatory attorney at Telecom Corporation of New Zealand Limited.
1989-91 part time editor of the Hong Kong Law Journal.
1981-91 Hong Kong Government; first appointed as counsel in 1991, and later to the position of Acting Assistant Director.
1978-81 litigation solicitor with Rainey Collins Armour and Boock, Barristers and Solicitors of Wellington, New Zealand.
1978 Accountant with Price Waterhouse.

Since coming to the Victorian Bar, Geoff has developed a wide ranging commercial practice appearing in both State and Federal Courts principally in trade practices and commercial litigation. He has also appeared in a number of professional negligence matters and general matters.
