Stewart was first admitted to practice in New South Wales in the year 2000. Prior to coming to the Bar, he practised as a solicitor with Blake Dawson Waldron and Gadens Lawyers.
Since signing the Bar Roll, Stewart has appeared in appeals, trials and interlocutory proceedings in the Supreme Court, the Federal Court and other courts and tribunals. His clients include banks and other financiers, insolvency practitioners, companies and company officers.
Stewart's publications include articles in the Australian Bar Review, the Insolvency Law Journal, the Company and Securities Law Journal and the Law Institute Journal.
He is a member of the Law Council of Australia's Insolvency and Reconstruction Law Committee, and a reporter for the Victorian Reports. He is a full member of the Insolvency Practitioners' Association of Australia, and a member of that organisation's national Education Strategy Working Group.
