Damien practices predominantly in revenue law, with a focus on income tax and state taxes. His specialties include:
M&A and corporate restructures;
property/ infrastructure and privatisations;
commercial and criminal implications;
accounting issues
Prior to coming to the Bar, Damien was for many years a partner in leading legal and accounting firms. His experience spans 25 years and includes:
Advising government in privatisations;
Advising in infrastructure transactions;
Advising in property matters;
Advising on cross-border and domestic mergers and acquisitions;
Advising on corporate restructures;
Advising in and negotiating audits and disputes;
Litigation in income taxation and state taxation matters in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, Supreme Court and Appeal Court of Victoria, Administrative Appeals Tribunal, Federal Court of Australia and High Court of Australia.
Damien is an Accredited Mediator with the Victorian Bar.
Damien is an Adjunct Professor of Law with Bond University. He also teaches as a Visiting Fellow in the post-graduate taxation programme of the University of Melbourne.
Damien is a Fellow of Leadership Victoria, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and a member of FASIG. He is also a Fellow and life member of the Taxation Institute of Australia, having served on National Council and State Council.
