Janine comes to the Bar with 10 years experience in commercial law, having practised as a partner in a premier, medium size law firm in Johannesburg which represented public listed companies, unlisted companies, major institutions, property developers, industrial enterprises and three of South Africa’s major commercial banks. She has been involved in various matters across a range of areas including property, insolvency, contract, and intellectual property law.
Over her 10 years of practise Janine has represented the following corporate entities in the types of litigation described:
Publicly listed electronics company in restraint of trade applications in South Africa and the USA;
European shipping and forwarding company in contractual disputes worldwide;
International specialist rate and tariff energy analysts (with offices globally) in country-wide contractual disputes.
High profile private bank in defending a hostile takeover bid by one of its competitors;
Property Development Company in a claim against the largest listed building company on the South African Stock Exchange.
Janine graduated from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa. She was admitted to practise in South Africa in 1993, and was subsequently admitted as a Conveyancer, and Notary Public.
Immediately prior to coming to the Bar Janine worked at the Law Institute of Victoria as Research Solicitor for the Commercial Law Section. In addition to servicing lawyers across Victoria, Janine was responsible for looking after various committees in areas covering business and company law, state and federal taxes, intellectual property law and trade practices.
Janine is a keen classical pianist and enjoys writing poetry in her spare time.
