John practices in both commercial and family law.
He recently acted for the defendants as one of two junior counsel to Peter Cawthorn SC in the Supreme Court proceeding of Griffiths & Beerens v Duggan – a case concerning two of the more significant identities in the industry of after-market chainsaw parts in Australia. The allegations including breach of restraint, breach of fiduciary duties and misuse of confidential information. The case ran for two months.
Prior to coming to the bar, John was employed in a suburban practice doing commercial litigation. His practice had a strong focus on bankruptcy and securities' enforcement, acting for a private financier. His general practice included cases of professional negligence, misleading and deceptive conduct, landlord-tenant disputes, Anton Pillar orders and interlocutory injunctions.
Since coming to the bar, John has also developed a practice in family law. He has a particular interest in bankruptcy, debtors, mortgages and third party property claims in the Family Court.
John read with James Nixon. He did Articles in 1999 at Arthur Robinson and Hedderwicks.
Outside the law, John’s interests include home renovations, motorcycle touring and anything to do with politics in Northern Ireland.
