Rudi Cohrssen graduated with the degrees BA and LLB from the University of Natal in South Africa in 1992. Before joining the Bar in Namibia in 1999, Rudi worked as a prosecutor in South Africa, and as a Prosecutor, Magistrate, Regional Court Magistrate and Solicitor in Namibia. During this period he also completed his LLM degree in Procedural Law at the University of South Africa.
During his practice in Southern Africa, Rudi built up extensive experience in Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Human Rights Law, Commercial Law, Maritime Law, Tax Law and Employment Law. During the last 4 years, he acted in several significant international extradition cases in Southern Africa. Rudi’s clients in commercial and tax matters included major commercial banks, insurance companies, mining companies, multinational corporations, the Regulator of Financial Institutions and the Department of Inland Revenue. Rudi has also done work for the ILO, including lecturing and co-authoring a paper on tripartite development indicators for conditions of work in Namibia.
Rudi was admitted as a Legal Practitioner in New South Wales in 2004, and relocated permanently to Australia in November 2006. He signed the Bar Roll on 3 December 2007.
