Melissa practises in all aspects of intellectual property, with particular interest and experience in trade marks, trade practices and marketing law. Melissa also practises in defamation law and general commercial disputes.

For a number of years prior to coming to the Bar, Melissa managed Mallesons Stephen Jaques' Trade Marks Group in Melbourne, providing trade mark, branding and general strategic advice to clients in Australia and overseas, and advising on oppositions and other IP disputes. Melissa also spent several years in Mallesons Stephen Jaques' IP group in Sydney, working on a number of IP disputes including trade mark and patent disputes. 

Melissa spent three years at Linklaters in London, after completing her LLM at Cambridge in 1996. In the UK, Melissa was involved in a range of IP disputes, including a number of parallel imports cases, one of which went to the European Court of Justice. Melissa was also involved in a number of large commercial transactions, handling the IP and IT aspects of such matters.
 Melissa also has experience in drafting contracts for the exploitation of technology, including patent and know-how licences, manufacturing and distribution agreements, trade mark licences, sale of business agreements, consultancy agreements and collaborative research agreements. 

Prior to coming to the Bar, Melissa also spent time in-house at NAB where she advised on general commercial, IP and IT matters, and handled a large IT dispute.
